National Electronics is the authorised service franchisee of Xiaomi mobile phones at Thodupuzha. The service area is located just back to the reception counter which is a closed room not directly visible or accessible to the customers. The customer waiting area is near the main entrance having a decent number of seats and a television in the front. I have visited this service centre several times for servicing mobile phones of mine and of my friends from the last 5 years. They have repaired some of our Mi phones including new and old models having software, battery, touchscreen and display issues. Their service was very quick, good and were always done within the prescribed time period. The receptionist at the front office was always friendly, helpful and supportive. As the service centre is authorised and the spares are genuine the service costs were always a little bit higher. Now I would like to share my last time experience which was not at all good and was entirely different from our previous ones. The touchscreen digitiser of my phone was broken but was working fine. Later when I decided to change the touchscreen I go to this shop. When we arrived there was no one present at the reception desk. When I called, one staff came from the service room to the counter and accepted my phone. Then he returned to the service room and after inspection came back with the phone in about 5 minutes. He informed me that they couldn’t replace the touchscreen alone. The only possible option they have is to replace the entire display which only take less than 45 minutes but will cost a little more money. Or else he told us to approach any of the local shops doing part by part replacement but the spares may not be original. I always prefer genuine spares so agreed to replace the full display. Before registration they always asked for the password or pattern to unlock the phone. When I gave the code he connected my phone to the computer at the reception via data cable. Then the registration was done instantly and asked us to sit at the waiting area. Even after 20 minutes of wait, he didn’t move or hand over my phone to the service room. He has been sitting in front of the counter, sometimes clicking the mouse and was doing something in the computer. Having noticed that from the waiting area, I enquired him what is going on and the person replied that motherboard scanning is in progress. But there wasn’t anything like that in our earlier visits and I don’t even know what did he do in my phone for that 20 minutes. Being unhappy with the reply I asked him to return my phone back if it takes even more time. The very next moment he unplugged the data cable and the phone was handed over to the service room. In the next 30 minutes the display has been replaced with a new one and the phone has been returned back to the front office. I accepted my phone after checking the touchscreen and display. Then I asked for the bill and paid the amount. After few days I have noticed three new and unknown YouTube subscriptions in my phone which weren’t done by me. So I deleted them at that moment itself. I think every one must take extra care for the safety and privacy of our data in all our digital gadgets before any service or repair. In my opinion all the service centre counters and tables must have live CCTV surveillance cameras directly accessible and visible to the customers in the waiting area which are now common. Most of the popular and good local service centres even have these facilities nowadays. It is not a good habit to check others mobile phones or any other devices without their permission. And I strongly believe that no one has the right to do so. We must have to respect the privacy of others. Due to this incident, I was unhappy and not at all satisfied with the approach & behaviour of that person during our last visit. So I am giving 2 star rating which is reserved specifically for the technicians and reception staff who provided their good services and nice approach during our entire visits.
